The chance of an artist succeeding with their work today is small. I’m not trying to sound negative, but in this big world full of talent, it’s alas, true that an artist, including a novelist will always be against the odds in having their book published by a traditional publisher and/or selling enough copies to work full time as a novelist. This doesn’t necessarily mean the writer’s book isn’t of good quality. It may be one of the best compared to other published books, but that is not exactly what publishers and agents look for. It’s a business. And they receive tones of manuscripts. That golden egg was always difficult to find. This doesn’t mean we as authors cannot try, and the more we do try(read and write…revise), the easier it becomes, the closer that success comes. It is not possible.
